Marita Napier

Marita Napier , actually Marita Jacobs , (born February 16, 1939 in Johannesburg , † April 10, 2004 in Cape Town ) was a South African opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Napier was trained as a singer in South Africa and then came to Germany at the Detmold Music Academy and then to Th. Lindenbaum in Hamburg. She made her debut in 1969 at the Bielefeld City Theater as “Venus” in Tannhäuser .

Napier sang in all major opera festivals in Europe - including Bayreuth , Aix-en-Provence , Arena von Verona , Munich, the Wiener Festwochen and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and in the leading opera houses such as those of Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Milanese Scala , Paris, Covent Garden Opera , Gran Teatre del Liceu , Teatro Colón , San Francisco and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

She was married to the tenor Wolfgang Assmann .
