Johanniter International (JOIN) is the partnership of 16 national charities based in Europe and Israel that go back to the Order of St. John and the four Protestant Order of St. John active in Europe - the Order of Saint John in England, the Order of St. John in Germany, the The Order of St. John in Nederland in the Netherlands and the Order of St. John i Sverige in Sweden.

The main objective of the organization, which is based in Brussels, is to represent the interests of the Johanniter Relief Organizations vis-à-vis European and international organizations and to promote international projects and working groups.

history

Johanniter International was founded in 2000. Since 2006 the organization has been a non-profit association with 16 member organizations.

Member organizations

The member organizations of Johanniter International are committed to social welfare and humanitarian aid, with both full-time and voluntary employees. Areas of activity include a. Emergency rescue, patient transport, first aid , first aid training, international humanitarian aid , youth work , food and clothing donations, educational institutions, repatriation in the event of illness, offers for people with disabilities and care for the elderly . The services of the JOIN member organizations go back to their Christian traditions and are open to everyone.

On request and on behalf of the member organizations, the Johanniter International office in Brussels regularly takes part in various meetings at European level, for example in the areas of humanitarian aid , development cooperation, civil protection, care, youth, research and innovation.

The office also functions as a communication and information center for the member organizations, for example by publishing a monthly newsletter and processing members' inquiries on European issues.

In addition, the JOIN office identifies relevant EU funding opportunities for its members and networks NGO partners with the Brussels offices of the national and regional representations as well as with members of the Order of St. John working in Brussels. Other duties include coordinating and moderating the activities of the members in the various standing working groups and other meetings.

Working groups

There are currently four permanent working groups: "Volunteering and Youth", "Medical Cooperation", "PR, Marketing & Communication" and "Foundraising". The working groups play an important role in promoting the exchange and communication of the members, the pooling of resources within the network, especially with regard to the development and implementation of new projects. The working groups meet regularly at least once a year in person and also hold regular online and telephone conferences.

The working group “Volunteering and Youth” deals with issues relating to volunteering and youth work , including the exchange of volunteers and young people between JOIN members. In addition, the working group addresses legal guidelines, the employment of voluntary workers, as well as common interests and offers of the JOIN members for young people such as first aid training and competitions as well as youth exchanges. Since 2011, the international exchange of volunteers in the JOIN network, called "Volunteer Swap", has taken place annually

The “PR, Marketing & Communication” working group deals with all topics relating to JOIN's press work , the website, publications as well as corporate identity (CI) and corporate design (CD).

The “Medical Cooperation” working group is dedicated to all clinical and medical cooperation. The group consists of senior doctors from the JOIN members and aims to exchange information on medical developments within the JOIN organizations and at the respective national level. In 2019 the medical working group published the first "European guidelines for first aid" in fifteen languages.

The Foundrasing Working Group established itself to share best practices and knowledge on fundraising , funding management and other related topics.
