John Alexander Herbert

John Alexander Herbert (born August 26, 1862 in Gateshead , † 1948 ) was a British librarian .

He was the son of SA Herbert, pastor of St. James Anglican Church in Gateshead. He studied at St John's College in Cambridge and was initially active as a teacher in Petersfield and Gateshead from 1883 to 1886 . In 1887 he became an assistant in the manuscript department of the British Museum , and in 1912 he became Deputy Keeper of Manuscripts there. In 1909 he converted to the Catholic faith .

His specialty were illuminated manuscripts .
