John Baptist Sye Bong-Kil

John Baptist Sye Bong-Kil (Korean: 서정길 요한; born May 1, 1911 in Taiku ; † April 7, 1987 ) was a Korean Roman Catholic Archbishop and Vicar Apostolic .

Life

Sye was ordained a priest on June 11, 1938. Pius XII. appointed him on July 3, 1955 Vicar Apostolic of Taiku and Titular Bishop of Choma . On September 15, 1955, Jean-Germain Mousset , former Vicar Apostolic of Taiku, ordained him bishop with the assistance of Adrien-Jean Larribeau , former Vicar Apostolic of Seoul, and Paul Marie Kinam Ro , Vicar Apostolic of the Bishop of Seoul . On March 10, 1962, Pope John XXIII. the Vicariate Apostolic of the Archdiocese of Daegu . He thus became its first archbishop. In 1971 he only ordained Gabriel Lee Gab-sou as bishop. On July 5, 1986, he resigned from office upon reaching retirement age.

His motto was Adveniat regnum tuum .
