Jean-Germain Mousset

Jean-Germain Mousset MEP ( Korean : 문제 만 제르 마노; born September 19, 1876 in Saint-Rambert-sur-Loire ; † June 8, 1957 in Seoul ) was a French Roman Catholic priest and Vicar Apostolic in Korea.

Life

Germain Mousset was inducted into the seminary of the Paris Mission on August 1, 1895. He was ordained a priest for the Paris mission on June 24, 1900. He traveled to Korea on August 1 for the mission. After an introduction to the Korean language, he was sent to Masan on the island of Ché-ju in 1901 and in 1911 appointed pastor of the newly established parish in Taegu .

After the death of Bishop Démange , Pope Pius XI appointed him on December 13, 1938 Titular Bishop of Irenopolis in Isauria and Vicar Apostolic of Taegu . The episcopal ordination donated him on May 7, 1939 Jean Baptiste Alexis Chambon , Bishop of Yokohama; Co -consecrators were Adrien-Jean Larribeau , Vicar Apostolic of Seoul , and Paul Aijirō Yamaguchi , Bishop of Nagasaki.

Mousset's term in office was short, in particular he faced many difficulties due to World War II and the increasing nationalism of the Japanese occupiers . He resigned as Vicar Apostolic on October 25, 1942 and retired to Pohang . In 1951 he was elected Korea’s first regional superior in the Paris Mission.

Jean-Germain Mousset died in Seoul on June 8, 1957 and was buried in Taegu.
