John Bellenden Ker Gawler

John Bellenden Ker Gawler (* 1764 in Ramridge , Andover , † June 1842 ibid; originally (before 1804) John Gawler , later also John Ker Bellenden or John Bellenden-Ker ) was a British botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Ker Gawl. "

Live and act

He changed his name to "Ker Bellenden" on November 5, 1804, but often signed himself with "Bellenden Ker".

His works include Recension Plantarum (1801), Select Orchideae (around 1816) and Iridearum Genera (1827). Ker-Gawler wrote the texts for the first 14 annual volumes of the illustrated journal Botanical Register from 1815 to 1829 and was then replaced by John Lindley . He was also the author of (anti-clerical) children's songs.

Honors

The plant genus Bellendena R. Br. And the mountains Bellenden Ker Range in Queensland were named after him.
