John Billington

John Billington (also: Billinton) (* around 1580; † September 30, 1630 ) was an Englishman who emigrated to the New World on the Mayflower and was one of the signatories of the Mayflower Treaty .
Life
Nothing is known about his life in England . His son Francis is mentioned in a 1612 lease.

John Billington left England in September 1620 with his wife Elinor and two sons, John Jr. (* around 1604) and Francis (* around 1606), on the Mayflower . They reached Cape Cod in November .
The Billington family is mentioned a number of times in early Plymouth Colony reports as troublemakers. In March 1621, Father John was first punished for defying orders from Myles Standish . In September 1630 a jury sentenced John Billington to death by rope for the murder of John Newcomen ; it was the first execution in the colony of Plymouth.
