John Callahan (cartoonist)

John Callahan (born February 5, 1951 in Portland , Oregon , † July 24, 2010 ) was an American cartoonist and musician .

Callahan was known for dealing with disabilities and physical inadequacies in his work, often in macabre ways . He had been paralyzed since a car accident in 1972 at the age of 21 and could only move his arms to a limited extent. Hence the rough lines of his caricatures . Some of his books have been published in German, such as his autobiography Don't worry, run away does not go and the collections of caricature you disturb and your stable door is open . He was also the inventor of the cartoon series Pelswick and Quads .

John Callahan died on July 24, 2010 at the age of 59 from complications from an operation.

Gus Van Sant filmed Callahan's life with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role in 2018 under the title Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot .
