John Carty (politician)

John Carty (born August 12, 1950 , † January 30, 2014 ) was an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ), from 2002 to 2007 a member of the Dáil Éireann and from 2007 to 2011 a senator in the Seanad Éireann .

Carty attended St. Patrick's College in Ballyhaunis , County Mayo and Warrenstown Agricultural College in County Meath . He received a Diploma in Local History from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth .

He was a member of Mayo County Council and was its chairman from 1999 to 2003. In 2002 he was elected to the 29th Dáil Éireann for the Fianna Fáil in the Mayo constituency. In the 2007 elections, Carty was unable to defend his mandate. Instead, he was elected to the 23rd Seanad Éireann.

Carty was married with eight children, six sons and two daughters.
