John Cech
John Cech (* 1944 ) is an American literary scholar with a special focus on children's and youth literature . Cech has been Professor of Children's and Youth Literature and 20th Century American Literature at the University of Florida since 1976 .
Life
John Otto Cech studied English literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , where he received his BA in 1966. He attended a PhD program at the University of Connecticut , which he completed in 1974 with a doctorate in English and American literature. Since 1976 he has been a professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville , where he heads the Center for the Study of Children's Literature & Culture . His work on Maurice Sendak is particularly well-known , and Cech, who also wrote literature for children himself, published on Charles Olson , Edward Dahlberg and Weston Woods . He also hosts a radio show on culture for children on the University of Florida’s National Public Radio program.
