John Charles Herries
John Charles Herries PC , often referred to in the literature as JC Herries (November 1778 , † April 24, 1855 ), was a British politician and financier.
From the beginning to the middle of the 19th century he held various government offices in Tory and Conservative Party governments. During the continental blockade he was paymaster in the British Army. With the help of Nathan Mayer Rothschild , he managed to supply the British Army and its allies with gold. This played a significant role in the success of the British troops. For the House of Rothschild , this very risky supply laid the foundation for the rise to become the most important financial institution in Europe. In 1827, John Charles Herries assumed the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer .
In the House of Commons he represented the constituency of Harwich from 1823 to 1841 and the constituency of Stamford from 1847 to 1853 .
