John Cyrus Rao

John Cyrus Rao (* 1951 ) is Associate Professor of History at St. John's University , Director of the Roman Forum / Dietrich von Hildebrand Institute and former President of Una Voce America.

Life

He received his BA from Drew University in 1973 with his bachelor thesis Portugal, Austria, and the Catholic corporate state . In 1977 Rao received his DPhil in Modern European History from Oxford University with the dissertation La civiltà cattolica as a background for understanding Quanta cura and the Syllabus of errors (1850-1865) . For more than 20 years, Rao has led the annual symposium of the Roman Forum on Lake Garda , which attracts renowned scholars from the United States and Europe.

A frequent contributor to The Remnant , a traditional Catholic bi-weekly magazine, Dr. Rao is known for writing his columns from Rocco's Cafe , an Italian patisserie in Greenwich Village , for several months a year . As a traditionalist Catholic, he is a strong critic of neoconservatism in both politics and the church.
