John Douglas Armor (born May 4, 1830 in Otonabee , Upper Canada , today: Ontario ; † July 11, 1903 in London ) was a Canadian lawyer who was a judge at the Supreme Court of Canada between 1893 and his death in 1906 .

Life

Armor, son of Samuel Armor, began an undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto after attending school , which he completed in 1850 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He then completed a law degree, which was customary at the time, between 1850 and 1853 in the law firm of his brother Robert Armor and most recently in the law firm of Philip Michael Matthew Scott VanKoughnet . After his legal admission, he settled as a lawyer in Cobourg in western Canada in 1853 , where he ran a law firm with Sidney Smith and, most recently, HF Holland until 1877 .

In 1877 Armour was appointed judge at the Ontario High Court , the Court of Queen's Bench , of which he became president in November 1887. 1901 he succeeded George William Burton as Chief Justice of Ontario (Chief Justice of Ontario) and held this post until his replacement by Charles Moss 1902. Subsequently, he was himself on 21 November 1902 by Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier to judge on the Supreme Appointed Court of Justice of Canada . At the same time he was appointed a member of the Border Commission for Alaska in February 1903 . He died on July 11, 1903 during a meeting of the Borders Commission in London .
