John Duncan (Africa explorer)
John Duncan (* 1805 in Culdoch , Scotland , † November 3, 1849 in the Bay of Benin ) was a Scottish explorer in West Africa .
Duncan was initially a soldier and joined the Lander brothers in 1842 . From 1845 to 1846 he undertook a trip to Whydah on the slave coast on behalf of the Geographical Society in London . From there, the journey took him on to Dahomey to 13 north latitude .
During a trip to Whydah, John Duncan died on November 3, 1849 in the Bay of Benin.
