John Eastaugh

John Richard Gordon Eastaugh (March 11, 1920 - February 16, 1990 ) was a clergyman in the Church of England . He was Bishop of Hereford from 1973 until his death .

After studying at the University of Leeds , he was ordained in 1944 . He began his ecclesiastical career as a vicar ( curate ) at a church in the London borough of Poplar and was then pastor ( vicar ) at two other London churches before he received episcopal ordination as bishop of Hereford in 1973 . He died 17 years later in the performance of his office on February 16, 1990.

Membership in the House of Lords

Eastaugh was an official member of the House of Lords as Ecclesiastical Lord from December 1978 to February 1990 in his capacity as Bishop of Hereford . He gave his inaugural speech on December 8, 1981, in support of the economic support for the states of the Eastern Bloc , especially in the case of Poland . The Hansard documented contributions by Eastaugh from the years 1981 to 1986. In November 1986, he last spoke in the House of Lords. His membership in the House of Lords did not end when he retired as a bishop, but prematurely with his death in February 1990.
