John Francis Moore (* 1745 in Hanover ; † January 21, 1809 in London ) was a sculptor who worked in Great Britain in the late 18th century.

Life

Moore was of English origin but was born in Hanover around 1745. He probably grew up in the Kingdom of Hanover , but moved to England around 1760. From 1765 he probably worked on Berners Street in London. In 1766 his first work was presented to the Society of Arts : a relief sculpture entitled Britannia Reviver of Antique. He became a member of the Free Artists' Association, where he exhibited a large number of sculptures every year from 1766 to 1776, including models made of clay and marble work, drafts for monuments, bas-reliefs for chimneys, further portrait busts and statues, highlighting a statue of Apollo made in 1769.

He died on January 21, 1809 in York Buildings, New Road, London. His three sons, including John Moore (d. 1788) who all practiced as artists, also exhibited their work in the Free Society of Artists, but were less important.
