John Graham (long distance runner)

John Graham (born June 18, 1956 ) is a retired British marathon runner .

He began his career as an obstacle runner and achieved his best time over 3000 m in this discipline on July 16, 1978 in Edinburgh with 8: 39.30 minutes.

In 1980 he won the Spanish championship in 2:13:21 h as a guest runner and was third in the New York City Marathon . The following year he won the premiere of the Rotterdam Marathon with his personal record of 2:09:28. In 1982 he was starting for Scotland , fourth at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane and fifth in New York in 1983. In the world record run by Carlos Lopes in Rotterdam in 1985, he finished second in 2:09:58.

At the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, he finished fourth again, which was also his last major international success.
