John Hay, 1st Lord Hay of Yester

John Hay, 1st Lord Hay of Yester ( 1450 - around October 1508 ) was a Scottish nobleman and ancestor of the Marquesses of Tweeddale .

John Hay was born in Peeblesshire in 1450 to Sir David Hay, Laird of Locherworth and Laird of Yester (Yester in East Lothian ) (1400–1478). His mother was Lady Elizabeth Hay (1397-1448), daughter of George Douglas, 1st Earl of Angus and Lady Mary Stewart († 1458), daughter of King Robert III. of Scotland.

He was the sheriff of Peebles . On January 29, 1488 he was by King James III. appointed Lord of Parliament by Scotland as Lord Hay of Yester .

Hay was married twice. In 1642 he married Lady Mariot Lindsay, daughter of John Lindsay, 1st Lord Lindsay of the Byres, with whom he had two children:

From the second marriage (around December 17, 1468; marriage contract) with Lady Elizabeth Cunningham († 1529), daughter of George Cunningham of Belton, six children were born:
