John Heaton
John Rutherford Heaton (born September 9, 1908 in New Haven , Connecticut , † September 10, 1976 in Paris ) was an American skeleton and bobsleigh driver .
John Heaton spent his winter holidays in St. Moritz, Switzerland in the 1920s . There, like his brother Jennison Heaton , he came into contact with the skeleton. Both competed in the first Olympic edition of the sport in 1928 . His brother surprisingly won the gold medal, John Heaton behind his brother silver. Four years later , Skeleton was not on the Lake Placid Olympic program . Heaton now started as a bobsleigh pilot. With his partner Robert Minton he won the bronze medal in the two-man bobsleigh. After Skeleton was again on the program of the St. Moritz Games in 1948 , Heaton took part again and, like 20 years before, won the silver medal behind the surprise winner Nino Bibbia and ahead of the favorite John Crammond . At the 1948 Games, Heaton was the flag bearer for the US team.
