John Jack Vrieslander
John Jack Vrieslander , pseudonym of Hans Zarth (* 1879 in Münster , † 1957 in Grabenstätt ), was a German graphic artist and illustrator .
life and work
After Vrieslander attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1897 to 1898 , he initially designed furniture, carpets, wallpaper and fabrics before turning to book illustration in 1900 . A first exhibition followed in Berlin from 1902. In the same year he joined the artist group Phalanx founded by Wassily Kandinsky .
From 1905 to 1908 Vrieslander lived in Paris, where he belonged to the artist colony Café du Dôme . A second stay in the metropolis followed from 1910 to 1911. In 1919 Vrieslander was a founding member of the Dachau artist group . Since his wife Jew was, he was forbidden from 1933 to 1944 to pursue his profession because all the Nazis a prohibition issued and it also temporarily interned had. After the end of the Second World War , Vrieslander was chairman of the Traunstein artist group from 1947 .
The music writer Otto Vrieslander (1880–1950) was his brother.
