John Lee Pratt

John Lee Pratt (born October 22, 1878 in King George County , Virginia , † December 22, 1975 in Stafford Country , Virginia) was an American manager , art patron and art collector .

Life

Pratt studied chemistry at the University of Virginia . After completing his studies, he worked for the US company DuPont Company in the years before the First World War . After the First World War, he moved to General Motors Corporation (GM) in 1919 , which was founded in 1908 by William Durant . At GM, he rose to the management level and was on the company's board of directors from the 1920s to 1968.

Pratt acquired Chatham Manor in Stafford County, Virginia, which he bequeathed to the United States National Park Service . In 1947 the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts received the art collection that he had acquired with his wife Lillian when she died in 1947. This collection included five Fabergé eggs .
