John Lewis Gillin

John Lewis Gillin ( October 12, 1871 in Hudson , Black Hawk County , Iowa , † December 8, 1958 ) was an American sociologist and the 16th President of the American Sociological Association . He was an early exponent of criminal sociology .

After initial studies, Gillin was ordained as a pastor in the Church of the Brethren . In 1906 he received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. PhD. He then worked at a college in Ohio and then at the University of Iowa . From 1912 he taught for 46 years as a sociology professor at the University of Wisconsin .
