John McK. Camp

John McK. Camp (full name John McKesson Camp II ; born February 8, 1946 in New York ) is an American classical archaeologist .

John Camp studied first at Harvard University ( BA 1968), then at Princeton University ( MA 1972), where he received his doctorate in 1977 . Since 1966 he has worked on the excavations of the American School of Classical Studies on the Agora of Athens , became deputy director in 1973 and director of the excavations in 1994. At the same time, he was Mellon Professor at the American School of Classical Studies from 1985 to 1996 and has been Professor at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland (Virginia) since 1996 .
