John Morris (geologist)
John Morris (born February 19, 1810 in Homerton, London , † January 7, 1886 in London) was a British geologist and paleontologist .
Morris attended private schools and worked for a while as a pharmaceutical chemist in Kensington , but then devoted himself entirely to geology and paleontology. 1854 to 1877 he was professor of geology at University College London .
He is best known for his publication of the Catalog of British Fossils in 1845.
In 1876 he received the Lyell Medal . He was a fellow of the Geological Society since 1845 . He was President of the Geologists Association from 1868 to 1871 and from 1877 to 1879. In 1878 he received an honorary Master of Arts from the University of Cambridge .
