John Newman (athlete)
John Newman ( John Lunn "Jack" Newman; born November 12, 1916 in Rochester , Kent , † February 14, 1974 in Burgess Hill ) was a British high jumper .
At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, he was eliminated from qualification. In 1938 he finished fifth for England at the British Empire Games in Sydney .
He was twice English champion outdoors (1937, 1939) and three times indoors (1936, 1937, 1939). He set his personal best of 1.93 on June 19, 1943 in Newquay .
