John Pattishall (* around 1293; † July or August 1349 ) was an English nobleman.

Life

John Pattishall was the eldest son of Simon of Pattishall , the son and heir to John of Pattishall and his wife Isabel, the daughter and heir to John of Stonegrave . His father died shortly before December 2, 1295, leaving young John the heir to the family's estates in Northamptonshire , Bedfordshire and other parts of England. His grandfather John of Stonegrave also died in 1295, so that he inherited his possessions in Yorkshire . Pattishall came of age around 1314 and was able to take over his inheritance. Before 1316 Pattishall served as the vassal of the Earl of Hereford in Wales. In the same year and in the following years he took part in the fighting against the Scots in northern England in the wake of Hereford. In contrast to Hereford, however, he fought on the king's side in the Battle of Boroughbridge in 1322 . He was summoned to royal council meetings in 1324, 1335, 1338, and 1342, respectively, but was never called to parliament . As an important member of the gentry , he served on judicial boards and other commissions in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. In June 1327 he received royal permission to fortify his residence in Bletsoe .

Family and inheritance

Pattishall had married Mabel , Otto Grandson's eldest sister, by 1312 at the latest . He had several children with her, including:

  • William Pattishall († September 1359) ∞ Joan Gray
  • Sibyl Pattishall ∞ Roger de Beauchamp from Bletsoe
  • Maud Pattishall ∞ Walter de Fauconberg, 4th Baron Fauconberg
  • Alice Patthishall ∞ Thomas Wake from Blisworth
  • Katherine Pattishall ∞ Robert of Tuddenham

His heir became his son, William Pattishall. After John died childless, the property of the Pattishall family was divided among the daughters of John Pattishall.
