After Rudolf Päßler had already contested the 1949 soccer east zone championship with SG Einheit Meerane in 1949 and had reached the semi-finals there, the 26-year-old goalkeeper was also in the squad of the Meerane team, who were able to stand up for the first season by participating in the east zone championship the soccer east zone league, the later GDR upper league, had qualified. In the 1949/50 season, in which the previous sports community went as a company sports community (BSG) unit, Päßler was in goal in 22 of the 26 point games. Also in the 1950/51 season, in the course of which the BSG was renamed in Progress Meerane, he was number one in the BSG goal with 32 appearances in 34 league games. In 1951/52 he was only used in 17 of the 36 point games until the beginning of the second half of the season and then replaced by Dieter Löschner, who was eight years his junior . Even after that, Löschner Päßler had overtaken the rank, which was only substituted in for the injured Löschner for 20 minutes in the 1954/55 league season. Then, for the 32-year-old Rudolf Päßler, his career in the higher leagues, in which he had made 72 league appearances, was finally over.
