John Paul Mitchell Systems or Paul Mitchell for short is an American company based in Beverly Hills .

Company history

Paul Mitchell and John Paul DeJoria founded the company as Paul Mitchell Systems, Inc. on March 31, 1980 . Since they couldn't find anyone to financially support them in their endeavors, they began marketing the products with around $ 700 starting capital that they had borrowed from DeJoria's mother. The colors black and white were chosen for the logo because you couldn't afford colored ink.

On May 9, 1985, the company changed its name to John Paul Mitchell Systems . On April 21, 1989 the company had around 50 employees.

marketing

From the beginning, the products were primarily sold to professional hairdressers and owners of hairdressing salons (so-called distributors ) instead of being offered in retail stores . Paul Mitchell also featured the articles on hair shows. As of April 21, 1989, John Paul Mitchell Systems had 39 distributors in the United States and 13 more in twelve other countries. These were mainly in exclusive regions; the dealers were chosen by friends of Mitchell and DeJoria. Today more than 25 distributors in the United States distribute the products to 90,000 salons and schools; 75 more are abroad. Wild Beauty AG, based in Seeheim-Jugenheim (near Darmstadt), is responsible for the distribution of the products in Germany and Austria .

Furthermore, John Paul Mitchell Systems developed the Associates Program to train hairdressers in the use of Paul Mitchell products and hairdressing. On April 21, 1989, John Paul Mitchell Systems had 700 partners.
