John Piper (2008)

John Stephen Piper (born January 11, 1946 in Chattanooga ) is an American theologian , Baptist clergyman, professor of practical theology and author .

Life

Piper was born in the US state of Tennessee . He studied Romantic Literature from 1964 to 1968 at Wheaton College (BA) in Illinois and theology at Fuller Theological Seminary (BD) in Pasadena, California. In 1974 he was with Leonhard Goppel at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with the dissertation "Love your enemies". Jesus' love command in the synoptics and in the early Christian paraenesis. A history of the tradition and interpretation of its uses for Dr. theol. PhD . He then taught at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. From 1980 to 2013 he was a pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church and Chancellor and Professor of Practical Theology and Biblical Exegesis at Bethlehem College and Seminary in Minneapolis , Minnesota.

Private

Piper is married with five children.
