John Ringo (born March 22, 1963 in Miami-Dade ) is an American science fiction and fantasy author who mainly deals with military topics. His works contain many depictions of battles and fights.

Life

John Ringo's childhood and youth were shaped by the family's constant change of residence; he himself counts 23 countries in which he lived and 14 schools in which he went. After graduating from high school, he joined the army and became a specialist in the US 82nd Airborne Division . After his service, he studied marine biology until he realized how badly paid the jobs in this area are, and worked in IT support ( SQL databases). In 1999 he was able to sell his first novel A Hymn Before Battle and a short time later establish himself as a freelance writer.

In the figure-rich Military SF spectacles that John Ringo writes, the names of his readers are repeatedly incorporated as red shirts , who can thus take part in the fights and battles, even if usually as cannon fodder and not for long.
