John Ritter (politician)
John Ritter (born February 6, 1779 in Exeter , Luzerne County , Pennsylvania , † November 24, 1851 in Reading , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1843 and 1847 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Ritter received only a limited education. Then he completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1836 he was a member of a constitutional convention in Pennsylvania. In the congressional elections of 1842 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of his state , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1843. After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1847 . These had been shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War since 1845 .
In 1846, John Ritter renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he published the German-language newspaper Adler in Reading . He died in Reading on November 24, 1851.
