John Roe (born April 10, 1977 in Brisbane ) is a former Australian rugby union player. He played on the position of number eight with the Queensland Reds in the international provincial competition Super 14 and was also captain of the team from 2005 to 2007. He went to school at Brisbane Boys' College . Furthermore, he successfully completed his medical studies in 2006 .

Career

He played his first game for Queensland in 1999. In 2001 he made his debut in the Super 12 for the Queensland Reds in a game against the Hurricanes , a New Zealand provincial team from Wellington . In total, he played for his province in 82 games of the competition, scoring 85 points (17 attempts ).

In 2003 Roe played his first international match for the Australian national team, the Wallabies , against Namibia during a group game of the Rugby World Cup in his own country.

He made his 50th game for the Queensland Reds in 2004 in a Super 14 game against the Crusaders . Four years later, in 2008, he ran against the Brumbies in his 100th game for the province. He was also named the best player in his province in the 2007 season.

After a serious shoulder injury, Roe retired from rugby in 2008 at the age of 31.
