John Stafford (knight)
Sir John Stafford of Worcestershire (* 1417 ; † 1461 ) was an English knight.
Life
Sir John Stafford was an English knight and soldier who fought in the Wars of the Roses and was loyal to the House of York .
When his father died in 1421, the four-year-old John came to Joan Beauchamp, Lady Abergavenny, as a ward and grew up there.
In July 1460 he fought on the side of York at the Battle of Northampton . When the battle was already decided or already ended, Sir John killed his rival Sir William Lucy, a supporter of the House of Lancaster , who arrived late on the battlefield.
According to many sources, Sir John had a relationship with Margaret, the wife of William Lucy , whom he later married.
In October 1460 Sir John was called to Parliament as Knight of the Shire for Worcestershire .
On March 28, 1461, Sir John fought at the Battle of Towton and fell.

Sir John Stafford's parents were Sir John Stafford and Elizabeth, daughter of John Cheyne.

After the Battle of Northampton, he married Margaret, the widow of Sir William Lucy. The marriage remained childless.
