John Sutton (economist)
John Sutton (born August 10, 1948 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish economist and university professor.
Career, research and teaching
Sutton studied until 1969 at University College Dublin , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and mathematics. He then completed his Master of Science degree in economics at Trinity College Dublin until 1973 , before becoming a Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield .
Lecturer at the University of Sheffield until 1977 , Sutton then moved to the London School of Economics and Political Science in the same position . There he rose first to reader and later to full professor. In 1998 he took over the Chair of Economics named after John Richard Hicks . Since 2000 he has been working as a consultant for the World Bank and between 2001 and 2004 he worked in an advisory capacity for the President of the European Commission , Romano Prodi . In 2004 he served as President of the Royal Economic Society .
Sutton's focus is on microeconomics and industrial organization .
