John Swanwick

John Swanwick (born 1740 in England , †  August 1, 1798 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1795 and 1798 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Neither Swanwick's exact date of birth nor his place of birth have been recorded. There is also no information about his youth or school days. At the beginning of the 1770s he came from his English homeland to the then still British colony of Pennsylvania. He settled in Philadelphia where he worked in commerce. He also published a volume of poetry. Swanwick also embarked on a political career in the 1790s. He became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson .

In the congressional elections of 1794 Swanwick party in the first constituency of Pennsylvania was elected to the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia, where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1795. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on August 1, 1798 . Between 1795 and 1797 he was chairman of the Committee on Commerce and Crafts.
