John Thorpe
John Thorpe (* around 1563 ; † 1655 in London ) was an English architect .
Life
Thorpe, son of a master mason, was secretary of the Royal Works (1584-1601) and surveyor of the government. Contrary to earlier assumptions, Thorpe did not design any significant structures. However, he left behind a sketchbook with all major buildings at the time Elizabeth I and James I were built. The book is a valuable resource for the history of architecture.
