John Walter Tarleton

Sir John Walter Tarleton KCB ( November 8, 1811 - September 25, 1880 ) was a British admiral.

Life

John Walter Tarleton joined the Royal Navy in March 1824 . In 1835 he was promoted to lieutenant , in 1846 to commander and in 1852 to captain . He took part in the Second Anglo-Burmese War . In the 1850s he commanded the HMS Eurydice and the HMS Euryalus . In 1868 he was promoted to rear admiral. From June 1871 to May 1872 he was Junior Naval Lord and from May 1872 to December 1874 he was Second Naval Lord . On May 24, 1873 he was inducted into the Order of the Bath as Knight Commander . In the same year he was promoted to vice admiral. In 1879 he retired.

He married in 1861. The marriage had three children, a son and two daughters. John Walter Tarleton was a great-grandson of the merchant, ship owner and mayor John Tarleton , or a grandson of his son Thomas. Among other things, he is a great-nephew of Banastre Tarleton .
