John Weidman

John Whitney Weidman (born September 25, 1946 in New York City ) is an American librettist .

Life

John Weidman came in 1946 as the son of the author Jerome Weidman and his wife, the author Elizabeth Weidman, b. Payne, born in New York.

He has written the books for a variety of musicals, including three in collaboration with Stephen Sondheim (Pacific Overtures, Assassins, and Road Show) . In 1999 he was involved in the work on the Tony-winning musical Contact, for which Susan Stroman directed and was responsible for the choreography. He was nominated three times for the Tony Award (best book for a musical) .

Weidman has been a copywriter for Sesame Street since 1986 and has won more than a dozen Emmy Awards for outstanding writing for a children's program.

From 1999 to 2009 he was President of the Dramatists Guild of America .

Weidman received a BA from Harvard University and a JD ( Juris Doctor ) from Yale Law School .

He has been married to the therapist Lila Coleburn since 1978. You have two children.
