John Joseph Welsh (born January 10, 1984 in Liverpool ) is an English football player who has been under contract with Grimsby Town since 2018 .

Player career

National

From the age of ten, John Welsh played in all youth teams of the English record champions Liverpool FC . Among other things, he was the captain of the reserve team. From the middle of the 2001/02 season Welsh trained regularly with the professionals of the first team, where he made his competitive debut for the "Reds" on December 4, 2002 in a League Cup game against Ipswich Town . Welsh made his Premier League debut on October 4, 2003, when he played against Arsenal .

So that he could develop, Welsh was loaned to the second division club Hull City for the 2005/06 season. There they were so impressed by his performance that he was signed on at the end of the season. In the promotion year 2008 he was loaned to the lower class team of Chester City .

International

John Welsh scored a goal in eight games for England's U-21 national team between 2004 and 2007.
