John de Clinton, 2nd Baron Clinton

John de Clinton, 2nd Baron Clinton (* around 1300, † February 1335 ) was an English nobleman and politician.

Life

John de Clinton was a son of the same name, 1st Baron Clinton , who was resident in Warwickshire on the Maxstoke estate, and of Ida de Odingsells. When his father died in 1310, he was still a minor. During the so-called Despenser War he fought in the royal army in 1322 in the battle of Boroughbridge against the rebels under Thomas Plantagenet, 2nd Earl of Lancaster . Before 1324 he was knighted . On 27 January 1331 he was writ of summons as Baron Clinton in the Parliament appointed. He also took part in the next parliaments until the writ of summons of April 1, 1335 was returned with the note mortuus est .

Before February 24, 1329, John de Clinton married Margery Corbet, daughter of Sir William Corbet of Worcestershire . He had at least two children with her:

  • Ida de Clinton ∞ Baldwin de Freville
  • John de Clinton (around 1325-1398)

His son John became his heir.
