John van de Rest (born March 19, 1940 in Vlissingen ) is a Dutch director and screenwriter .

Life

John van de Rest started shooting for Dutch television in the 1960s. In addition, he also took over the direction of numerous theater productions. He was also one of the co-founders of the Mickery Theater in Loenersloot in 1965 .

In 1981 John van de Rest made a four-part television series about the Dutch dancer and spy Mata Hari , which was considered the most expensive production in the history of Dutch television at the time.

He retired from filmmaking in the early 2000s.

John van de Rest was married to the actress Josine van Dalsum from 1974 until her death in 2009 . The marriage gave birth to their son Aram van de Rest , who was born in 1976 and works as an actor and director. He has a daughter from a previous relationship.
