Johnnie Carr
Johnnie Rebecca Daniels Carr (born January 26, 1911 in Alabama , † February 22, 2008 in Montgomery (Alabama) ) was an American civil rights activist .
Carr joined the black civil rights activist Rosa Parks , who was arrested on December 1, 1955 for refusing to give way to a white man on the bus. This led to the Montgomery bus boycott .
In 1967, she succeeded Martin Luther King as President of the Montgomery Improvement Association and held that office until her death. In 2001 she was honored with the Four Freedoms Award in the category of religious freedom in Hyde Park , New York .
