Johnny Weiss (born June 12, 1963 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a retired American wrestler. He was best known for his work in the Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA) and in the successor Extreme Championship Wrestling , where he became the first Triple Crown champion.
Life
Johnny Hotbody began his wrestling career in the late 1980s. He trained at Larry Sharpe's The Monster Factory and made his debut in various independent promotions in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in 1988 . He then signed with the Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA) in 1990, where he quickly made a name for himself. Among other things , he feuded against Tony Stetson and held the tag team championship together with Larry Winters.
When the TWA closed shortly afterwards, he came into the roster of the follow-up promotion Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW) in 1991 , which later became extreme championship wrestling. On April 26, 1992 he was allowed to defeat Jimmy Snuka and thus became the second holder of the ECW Heavyweight Championship . After three months he had to give the title back to Snuka. On August 12, 1992, he became the first ECW Television Champion after beating LArry Winters in a tournament final. A month later he broke his shin and had to give up the belt.
After a year of forced hiatus, he returned to the ring in 1993 and founded the tag team The Suicide Blondes with Chris Candido . So he won the ECW Tag Team Championship on April 3, 1993, which made him the first Triple Crown winner of the ECW. The “Triple Crown” consists of winning the three main titles of a doctorate. With Chris Michaels, the tag team later grew so that they then competed under the Freebird Rule . The three of them later won the Tag Team Championship a second time. However, when Candido switched to Smoky Mountain Wrestling , they got the title stripped. The following champions, The Dark Patriot (Doug Gilbert) and Eddie Gilbert, were also stripped of their titles 54 days later after they both left ECW. Then Hotbody was named together with Tony Stetson to the new champions and retained the title until November 13, 1993. This also marked the last title reign of Hotbody in the ECW. With the new direction of the ECW under Paul Heyman , which turned more and more to hardcore wrestling , he was more and more degraded to a jobber and left the doctorate in 1995. Afterwards he was active in independent leagues for a few years, including the NWA Jersey, but then withdrew entirely from wrestling.
