The Felshaus is a listed cultural monument in the Erzgebirge town of Johanngeorgenstadt in the Saxon Ore Mountains .

location

On the Rabenberg between Johanngeorgenstadt and Breitenbrunn / Erzgeb. Since the 17th century several pits have been operated to mine directly adjacent ore veins . This also included St. Wolfgang Stolln , muted in the Schwarzwassertal , which was already in operation before Johanngeorgenstadt was founded in 1654. The Huthaus, located on a prominent group of rocks, emerged today in the Felshaus am Schwarzwasser , which was rebuilt by factory owner J. Beyreuther after a fire in the mid-19th century and later expanded , and which Schwarzenberger Strasse passed before crossing the Rothe Bridge to Johanngeorgenstadt came. The street was later moved to the west side of the Schwarzwasser, where a tannery was built as a factory building in the 19th century.

The rock house originally belonged to the Annaberg city physician Franziskus Hegenwald, who, out of freedom and pity, approved the construction of a board mill on his property so that construction work could begin immediately.

However, on June 20, 1654, Hegenwald sold the Felshaus to the hammer mill owner Caspar Wittich for 180 thalers . The newly formed municipal council of Johanngeorgenstadt endeavored to acquire the Felshaus itself and started negotiations with Caspar Wittich, who agreed to sell it after five years. In 1659, the Felshaus became the property of the city for 157 Taler 12 Groschen. At that time, this also included the St. Wolfgang Stolln mine , which was located on the property of the Felshaus. Since there were difficulties with paying the purchase price, the city council was forced to sell the Felshaus to the miner Oswald Solbrich on December 8, 1659, who paid 115 thalers for it. The owner of the Felshaus Oswald Solbrich had an accident on Shrovetide in 1670, when he and Georg Gündel explored the St. Wolfgang Stolln. He wasn't saved until the next morning. At the beginning of the 18th century, the building was still known as the Solbricht rock house.

The old rock house was cremated by fire and replaced by a new building in the middle of the 19th century.

The area of the dilapidated Stollnmundloch of the St. Wolfgang Stolln is also known as the robber's cave and was a destination for excursions from Johanngeorgenstadt until after the Second World War.

Individual evidence

  1. The building of the former tannery was demolished around the year 2000.
  2. Various matters, including the Solbrichtsche Felshaus and Testament, 1713-1715
  3. The assumption that it could be the oldest house cannot be confirmed, as it is a new building from the 19th century, which was built after a fire in the previous building. The construction plans for this have been preserved in the district archive in Aue to this day.
