Life

Caspar Wittich was the son of the master tin maker and owner of the rod hammer Zwota near Bleystadt in Bohemia , Laurentius Wittich (1574–1647) and Susanna geb. Ruscher (1580–1636), daughter of the councilor and trader Abraham Ruscher († 1591) from Schneeberg . He was baptized on April 11, 1602 in the Protestant church in Eibenstock .

Because of the persecution of exiles , he had to leave Zwota with his parents when he was eight weeks old. They settled in Breitenbach near Platten, where Protestants were tolerated at that time. At that time there was a hammer mill there, where he received private lessons. From 1621 he served five years in the body regiment of Duke Julius Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenburg. After returning home, he acquired the three hammer works in Breitenbach , Wittigsthal and Morgenröthe named after him .

The later mayor of Johanngeorgenstadt, Johann Bleyer , worked as a scribe in the two hammer mills. Caspar Wittich died on August 13, 1673 at the age of 70 and had seen 10 children and 69 grandchildren. He was buried on August 19, 1673 in the town church of Johanngeorgenstadt, which burned down in 1867. His wife Magdalena was buried there on February 2, 1688.
