history
The establishment of the place goes back to an ironworks set up by Caspar Wittich in the middle of the 17th century on the Bohemian border. After 1826, the owner Nestler of the iron hammer mill built a sheet metal rolling mill based on the English model in Haberlandmühle am Schwarzwasser, which belongs to Johanngeorgenstadt . For this he used the systems from Silesia, which were intended for the Schönheiderhammer iron hammer works and were not used there due to bankruptcy. The rolling of the iron sheet was more efficient than the previous hammering and produced more homogeneous and dimensionally stable sheets.
In 1935 Wittigsthal was incorporated into Johanngeorgenstadt together with Jugel . Eisenwerk Wittigsthal GmbH still exists today as a traditional manufacturer of enamelled bath stoves .
