Johnny (Johannes Hendricus van Musscher) Jordaan (born February 7, 1924 in Amsterdam , † January 8, 1989 ibid) was a Dutch singer . He sang the typical Amsterdam variant of the sentimental song of life and with an Amsterdam accent.

Jordaan was born into a working class family. He lost an eye at the age of nine after a brawl. Among other things he was a singing waiter and café owner. Several times only his relatives and friends, including Willy Alberti , whose cousin he was, were able to save him from bankruptcy. He died in Amsterdam of a brain hemorrhage on January 8, 1989 . The Johnny Jordaan-Plein in the Elandsgracht in the Amsterdam neighborhood of the Jordaan was named after him . Opposite the square is the houseboat museum .
