Johnny Morris (musician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johnny Morris (born October 30, 1935 in New York City ) is an American jazz pianist (also vocals).

Morris attended the State University of New York and was a member of Buddy Rich's big band in the early 1960s , with whom he went on a State Department tour. In the 1980s he performed with Jimmy McPartland and His All-Stars and Jimmy Ryan’s New York Jazz All Stars ( Jazz of the Connecticut Traditional Jazz Club ); he also worked with Scott Hamilton , Ruby Braff and Roy Eldridge . He released the album East Meets West under his own name . In the field of jazz he was involved in eight recording sessions between 1960 and 1982. Together with Sam Most he wrote the title Marbles for the Buddy Rich Band . He lives in New Canaan, Connecticut .

Morris should not be confused with the early jazz drummer of the same name, who played with The Georgians and Paul Specht , nor with the American comedian and actor (1887-1969).
