Works

Excerpt from the historical map "Warhaffter demolition of the Schmalkalden rule " by Joist Moers from 1589

From his appointment in 1569, Joist Moers created various maps of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel , including special border maps as well as - as part of a planned national mapping and new creation of the Salbuch - office maps .

After the change of rule from Wilhelm to Moritz in 1592, Moers only carried out a few large orders as a civil servant, but mainly drew a number of "small sheets for Hessian noble families".

It is one of the oldest and most detailed depictions of the then controversial Assinghausen site .

The partially colored pen drawing "Warhaffter Abriss der Herrschaft Schmalkalden " by Moers dates from 1589. The 64 × 116 cm original parchment map is kept in the Hessian State Archives in Marburg , a facsimile is in the Schmalkalden Museum Schloss Wilhelmsburg . The local views on this map are considered to be "almost realistic" ( vedute ) and are therefore of local historical importance for the respective communities. For example, the drawing of the town of Schmalkalden contains the only known depiction of the previous building ( Waltaff Castle ) of the Wilhelmsburg renaissance castle that was demolished at the end of the 16th century .
