Jolán Kleiber-Kontsek

Jolán Kleiber-Kontsek, b. Kontsek (born August 29, 1939 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian athlete who was particularly successful as a discus thrower . She also competed in the shot put .

Career

Between 1960 and 1972, Kleiber-Kontsek was the Hungarian discus thrower eleven times. During this period, the title only went to another athlete, Judit Stugner, in 1963 and 1969 . She also won the Hungarian championships in 1960 and 1961 in the shot put.

At the Universiade in Sofia in 1961, Kleiber-Kontsek won the bronze medal with the discus. She achieved the same placement at the European Athletics Championships in Belgrade in 1962 behind Tamara Press from the Soviet Union and the German Doris Müller . At the Universiade in Pôrto Alegre in 1963, she won silver in discus throwing and bronze with the ball.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, Kleiber-Kontsek took sixth place in discus throwing. In the shot put, however, she missed the final. In 1965 she won the discus throwing title at the Universiade in her hometown Budapest in front of her national competitor Judit Stugner and, surprisingly, the Olympic and reigning European champion Tamara Press. This success secured her the election of Hungary's Sportswoman of the Year . Also in Budapest, she finished fourth at the 1966 European Athletics Championships .

Kleiber-Kontsek celebrated her last major international success at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. There she won the bronze medal in the discus throw behind the Romanian Lia Manoliu and the German Liesel Westermann .

Kleiber-Kontsek is 1.78 m tall and weighed 84 kg when she was active. She started for the Újpesti Torna Egylet from Budapest.
